The highlight of our second day in Naples was probably the Museo Archeologico Nazionale – the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, which has enough classical mosaics, frescoes and statues to make a Hellenic or Roman Pagan swoon. Here’s some of my favourite pieces…
A rather sexy Bacchus
The enormous and truly impressive Farnese Bull
Skull mosaic found in Pompeii, confirming the view that the Neapolitan fascination with skulls and skeletons is by no means new.
The museum has an entire section devoted to sexual antiquities, including this phallus votive plaque
Pan being amorous with a goat
At the exit of the museum there was a modern art exhibit featuring giant-sized human bones!
